On the way back to Chicago through a snow storm we decided to divert over to Battle Creek and check out Arcadia. It was well worth the trip. Its a dive - in a nice way and has both great food and beer. The surprise was a wood fired oven off in the corner that much of the menu was prepared in. Their appetizers and sandwiches were superb and perfect compliment to some very, very good beers.

Stopped in to Arcadia for the first time. Very pleased. The beer was really good, as expected. The server helped me pick the beers for my flight and I genuinely enjoyed each one. The food was a delightfully pleasant surprise. Arcadia has a reputation for beer, we know. So to find it paired with really good food was a treat. My husband had a pizza and I had the chicken quesadilla. Both excellent and prepared in the brick pizza oven on the restaurant floor. The quesadilla was particularly good with a rich, smokey flavor that the waitress explained comes from the bean sauce. Excellent. Our server was also excellent. She was knowledgable, attentive, and friendly without being intrusive. The only drawback to detract from 5 stars was the restaurant interior was a tad "gritty." A great experience over all.

Ok. I'm not a huge fan of their beer, so I'm not totally sure why we visited this place anyway. Their Cereal Killer didn't impress. The Cocoa Loco honestly fell a bit short for me...I dunno. I normally don't go for their stuff, and sadly it wasn't any better when we visited there. BUT THOSE DATES. I've been singing their praises ever since. We visited in November and I've been dreaming of them/trying to recreate them ever since. We sat at the bar, mulling over if we even liked the beer or not, and decided to order some of the Date Devils after a long day of driving. Holy crapola...we immediately decided that the small order of 6 was not going to be enough. When the bartender came back over to ask us if we wanted to order anything else, we ordered waters and ANOTHER order of Date Devils. We dragged that second order out for a ridiculously long time...at one point I even started laughing at how passionate I was feeling about the food in my mouth. My husband started laughing at the same time, without me having to say anything...we both were on the same page. It's funny and ridiculous how great these little guys are. We both may not make it back to Arcadia Ales for the beer...but I could see us making the pilgrimage there again to get those Date Devils.

Terri and I stopped in while in town over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our server was very nice in helping Terri find something that she likes. Truth be told she's a Corona Light and Miller Lite kinda gal and doesn't often waver into bolder beer territory. Much of what I wrote in my earlier review still applies... BUT, the place is getting a bit shabby appearing and could use some sprucing up. I'm not talking about a whole makeover, just some repairs here and there.

Have eaten here many times and typically it's better. Had the Rueben and was slightly disappointed with its bread and the fact that it was cold. I'm rating a 3 because the pizza are typically better and don't want to total deter some from eating here. Had no beer this time.

Awful food and awful service. First and last time. Got Mac and cheese for kids that had to be microwaved. The burger was discusting. The waitress was clueless.

Delicious gluten free pizza and I was impressed with the beers they brew on site! If we lived here we would be back.

This review is a little difficult to write since my experience wasn't as good as my husband's. However, since he was with me, I'll sort of take an average of our experiences. To start with, Arcadia Ale is in a large space downtown. It's a bit rough on the inside. The floors and furniture isn't kept up the best. In some restaurants it would lend itself to a sort of relaxed feel. It comes off as a little dirty feeling in Arcadia, however. The brick pizza oven dominates one corner and it's pretty apparent that BBQ and pizza are the hallmarks of the restaurant. In that vein, we got the smoked chicken wings to start. We got the wings dry with no sauce because the restaurant has a good variety of sauces for you to choose from. The wings we got weren't crispy at all and some of the chicken skin was pretty gummy. It would be nice if they dropped them in a deep fryer for a minute or two just to crisp them up. The wings we got were also cold in the middle. We returned them to our server without a hassle and didn't get another app to replace it since we figured we'd just wait for our entrees. My husband got the ribs with the baked beans and collard greens. I got a "cuban" sandwich with pulled pork on it. My sandwich wasn't a cuban in that it wasn't pressed and didn't have as much mustard, mayo, or pickles as a real cuban should. It ended up being a regular pulled pork sandwich with swiss and some ham on it. It was pretty bland until I liberally coated it in BBQ sauce. My husband's ribs were excellent, though. He couldn't stop raving about them. They were a big St. Louis cut, with a good dry rub on them, tender, and very flavorful. These truly were some excellent ribs. The sides were just as delicious and I'd love their recipe for baked beans since they tasted like none I'd ever had before. This review is most difficult since my experience was mostly a 3, but my husband's was a 4.5 (only marked down because of the wings, the atmosphere and the service was a touch slow). So I'm averaging it as about a 4. I'd go back, but I'd get a pizza or their BBQ in a "traditional BBQ" format.

I've been here before and can't get enough of it. It's too bad it's not more convenient for me to visit. In my most recent visit, my So and I decided to stop in for lunch. As usual, the food was very good. I would rate it as much better than one typically finds in bars/brewpubs. I had two excellent beers, and IPA and strong Scotch Ale. Top notch. My SO had a porter and loved it. Prices were reasonable. The place itself is in an older building. The seating/bar area looks into the brewery. It's a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff is wonderful. The service was quick and efficient. That did not change as we watched the lunch crowd grow. I can't wait for another visit.

Rough around the edges, the service was nice and the beer was very good; food was okay. The decor was a bit industrial but topical for halloween. I was surprised that they decided to fix a lightbulb during operating hours by flipping a switch hereby turning the light off over our table as we ate. To me, this is the sort of work to do while you are closed even though i definitely agree with his safety protocol.

We accidentally stumbled upon Arcadia when looking for another restaurant that, while listed on yelp, I could not find evidence of. Things turned out well, though, because this spot was a nice spot to stop during a road trip through Michigan. My first stop when I entered was the bathroom as we had been driving and I do have to say that this bathroom is gross. It's old and and while clean, it is falling apart. The bar itself is ok, nothing super special, but comfortable. The service staff was quite friendly and we ended up sitting at the bar. I tried a 'cheap date' beer - quite delicious and had a sandwich. My food was pretty good, a bit unhealthy as you might expect from a bar, but ok. However, I had a bite of the brisket sandwich and that was really really nice. It was juicy and had a nice flavor to it - almost melt in your mouth. I definitely should have ordered that to begin with. All in all, it was good, but I think the beer is better than the food. The general atmosphere is nice and dark, which is good for a bar, maybe not quite as much at noon on a Saturday. The bathroom situation also needs to be updated. Food - 3 Bathroom - 1 Atmopshere - 3 Value - 4 Service - 4

After a full day of golf, we settled into the street-view table in the front window at this cool joint on Michigan Avenue West. The smell coming from the kitchen was intoxicating...must have been the smoker for their BBQ'd meats. Arcadia has a wonderful selection of craft beers (at reasonable prices)...everyone enjoyed their choices from IPAs to Stouts. The food however, was on the disappointing side. I ordered a "standard fare" burger which was as plain and boring as could be. The meat was alright (and cooked to my desired doneness), but the brioche bun fell apart when i first picked it up...bottom bun soaked with juices and top bun dry and flaky. Others around the table were also less than thrilled...wings that were too tough to easily pull apart and fatty meats on a Reuben. Wish there was more to tell...cool place to hang, solid beers, food not so good.

Not a fan. I think that the taps were messed up when I went, but the beer tasted flat and warm. It wasn't just one beer because I had a flight. Only 2/5 of the brews were drinkable. On top of that, the food tasted as though it had been heated up in a microwave and want cheap. Overall, disappointing experience.

Went for dinner tonight...service was slow and we were in before the rush...ordered ribs and cheese ale soup...very disappointed cold soup, tough dry ribs that had to much dry rub on them the coating of dry rub was almost half inch thick. We were not asked how our meal was until we were done and waiting for 20 minutes and the manager came and asked how our meal was when I told her the soup was cold and the ribs were tough and dry she replied "really that's what other people have said would you like to tell the chef". When I replied yes she laughed nervously and left the table and did not come back...the worst customer service we have ever had spent a lot of money for a barely edible meal

The food: We ordered the club, goat cheese pizza, and devil dates. The devil dates were pretty good. I'd definitely suggest. The club was...a club. I did like the i think it was aioli sauce though. They also were pretty generous with the bacon. The goat cheese pizza was not as good. But that's not my thing. For being a brick oven baked pizza the crust didn't seem so crisp as I'd have expected. The beer: They only have stouts, porters, and ales. No lagers or pilsners. We order the angler ale, loco choco, starboard porter, and something gold. The description for the something gold was wrong. I expected more of a lager. I noticed later it had same exact description as angler. It was an IPA however. Favorite beer was definitely the starboard. The gold was a good IPA though. The environment: Was pretty decently sized. Good too bc it was empty when we arrived around 4-5 but filling up by 6. Has a woodsy lake cabin pub feel to it. Nice. The bar was a good size that wrapped around a bit. There were also a couple dart boards. Good place.

This was the first time I have eaten here. I ordered the Cobb salad to go during my work lunch. It was ready when promised, and close enough to walk to obtain. The salad was the worst salad I have ever had! Dirty lettuce, brown avocado, runny flavorless blue cheese dressing, with no blue cheese in it. My coworker ordered the same, we both were very disappointed. The salad was almost $12.00. There are many other good places to eat close by, I'd recommend any of them over this one for food.

Loved this place! We stopped on one of our many trips from the East side of the state to Lake Michigan. Always looking for little Breweries of our fav beer. It was a nice hobby the last two years I lived in Michigan. This happens to be one of my fav breweries and one I miss quite a bit for their beer. Their White Sun is great and light. If you love wheat beers then you will love this beer. We stopped each had one beer and a snack. I chose the flatbread pizza which was actually pretty good. Their service was interesting. I spent most of the time feeling like the waitress was interested in my BF which was kinda funny. Even he noticed it but, either way the food was good and we love their beer! We showed up a little early for our fav Fall Beer JawJacker Pumpkin Ale. Overall I would definitely be back here for more beer and snacks in the future if I passed this way again!

Went with friends to celebrate his 40th. We had several beers but my favorite was Loch Down Scotch Ale. Nice atmosphere and great looking bar. My wife had the Rubin (made with beer braised corned beef, marbled rye bread and homemade kraut). I had the Leeeeroy Jenkins wood fired pizza (smoked chicken, pesto, tomatoes with mozzarella and Gorgonzola) Best pizza I've had on a long time. Would go back for sure.

Pros - pizza was awesome! BBQ chicken is the way to go. Beers are well worth the trip. Cons- service was sketchy. Bartender was not personable. Very sour. Needs a vacation. Overall glad I made the trip.

The beer was great! The staff was great! I would recommend the fresh hop IPA if they have it on tap. It is a completely different kind of IPA.

The Ruben was so so. Actually it was the saddest Ruben I've ever seen. I had to send it back and asked to pay more for extra meat. It's not hard to make a beautiful and tasty sandwich. Work on presentation and making them a lot more wow!!! Good luck!

Atmosphere - 5 / 5 Food / beer quality - 5 / 5 Staff friendliness / knowledge - 4.5 / 5 Food cost - 4 / 5 Menu options - 5 / 5 I loved this place! I went for the first time the other night and the atmosphere is phenomenal (I loved being able to watch the brewery bottle everything) and the food was incredible. My boyfriend said the beer was great and the staff was really sweet. The only thing that may put me off is that the food was somewhat expensive yet you do pay for good quality so I would definitely go back some time.

I have family in Kalamazoo that I was recently visiting with my boyfriend who is an avid craft beer enthusiast. We spent most of our vacation touring breweries around Michigan and I was proud to show him how great the Michigan Beer industry is! I really wish we had chosen another brewery to replace Arcadia. The Instant we walked in we were greeted with an almost mildewy smell, not very appetizing at all.The building has definitely seen better days, when I flushed the toilet water jetted out of the handle, my brother said he had a similar issue in the mens bathroom. Our server was friendly and told us we could order flights of ANY beer they currently had on tap so three people in our party decided to order flights. My boyfriend apparently ordered one of their more expensive beers to add to his flight unknowingly. Our waitress said nothing, but the bartender came over and had a HUGE attitude about it, she only poured him barely a shot of the beer and told us she shouldn't even be giving us that because its an expensive beer. She was beyond rude and nasty about it. We would have had no problem changing the order had anybody bothered to inform us and maybe they shouldn't tell people you can have a flight of ANY beer. The beer was nice but seeing as we were touring breweries around Michigan it wasn't the best we had. The food was underwhelming, however my brothers ordered pizzas and were quite happy. I think its clear with the opening of Arcadia in Kalamazoo, they have let the Battle Creek one go.

I loved everything about Arcadia except for the decor. I felt like I was in an abandoned warehouse. The bathrooms reminded me of condemned buildings in Detroit complete with odd stains, items ripped off of walls, broken appliances, etc. Maybe it's the look they were going for? I can't say enough about the beer and food. The Whitsun and Rapunzel were delightful and we plan on drinking them again. We both ordered the Ale Cheese Soup and the cup was a generous portion but at the same time, it could have been bottomless, it was so incredible, it is not possible to have a large enough bowl. My partner ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I ordered the Reuben. Both were inventive, the flavors spot on and it was plated appropriately. We also both had Sriracha Cesar salad and the flavors were mind blowing. I kept questioning myself, why haven't I ever thought to make a Sriracha Cesar salad? There was plenty of on site parking and the streets are very walkable, if somewhat abandoned. The only reason they lost a star was due to the condition of the restaurant and bathroom.

Food was descent but it took forever to get out food 45 minutes and they weren't that busy. Poor waitstaff never came around to get additional drinks had to chase her down for everything

Went there on a Saturday afternoon it took 45 minutes to get the appetizer we ordered, black bean dip. It was watery and the pita bread was burned. The beer was OK at best. We went to Dark Horse the day before it was much better. We also got a pizza the highlight of the visit. We've been to many brew pubs this was the worst.

When I visited back home for the holidays I was so thankful to find a place downtown that made fresh foods. Too many in that town are used to Taco Bell/McDonald's/subways. Just was happy to see good service, a great business establishment, and once again amazing food!

We finally made it to Arcadia after two other breweries AND a distillery. Needless to say, it was a looooooooong day of drinking. Arcadia was the last stop of the day and had to satisfy our insatiable beer cravings and feed us (you know...so we can drink more, of course). Luckily, we got everything we needed there. And then some, judging by the ridiculous amount of swag we left with. We ended up getting flights which included 5 decent sized pours (maybe 4 oz?) of anything from their current list. Between the two of us, I think we tried every damn beer they had there. I tried the Nut Brown Ale (decent), the IPA (very drinkable), the Angler's Ale (good...nothing special, but good), the Hopmouth IPA (YUP. This was it.), and the B-Craft Black Double IPA (Yummy but not my favorite Black IPA). I'd tell you what my partner in crime had, but I was too tired (or perhaps lit) to care or remember. Sorry. We had food too...I had the ale cheese soup and the spicy wings. Daaaaaaaaaaamn those wings were spicy. And they were slippery little suckers too. Watch your face and your clothes. Or your drinking habits. Either way. We also got some meat platter of some sort which my friend mangiaed so it must've been good. In the end, we left happy complete with full bellies, pint glasses, a bomber, and some four packs. All in all, the brewpub was nice, the food and beer are good, and it's a nice addition to the streets of nothing in Battle Creek. If I ever find myself in town again, I'd definitely make sure to stop in.

What a disappointing dinner tonight. I don't know what was wrong with the staff and cooks. I went here with a dinner group I am a part of, and we all love this place. But tonight I'm really wondering if it's ever worth going back. And this is just my take on it, all 10 of us had horrible food and service. There special was meat loaf and it sounded great. But when it came out it was dry and way over cooked. One person in our group even had to send hers back because it was way over cooked and charred, and when she finally got her second meat loaf it was the same way. I really liked their BBQ Brisket last time, so this time I tried the BBQ combination platter which is $16 dollars and I was expecting a hefty portion. But was completely disappointed. The piece of brisket was so so and the pulled pork and pulled chicken was so dry it was almost uneatable. Thank goodness for BBQ sauce. I no where near got enough food. I hate leaving a restaurant hungry and have my wallet wiped clean. Try at your own risk.

My girlfriend disagrees but Arcadia's bar space is probably one of my favorites in Michigan but, I'm VERY partial to the British Pub atmosphere and pub fare. That said, one of my best brewery experiences included Arcadia. My best friend and I decided to travel from Jackson, MI to Grand Rapids by way of breweries We weaved are way down I-94 (including a stop into Arcadia). Arcadia has a few beers that'll keep me coming back as long as they're brewing them: Arcadia's "Loch Down" scotch ale is delicious even if it isn't the most technically proficient scotch ale on the planet. Additionally Arcadia was offering a "Breakfast" Stout which to my understanding was on tap on-site only. It was delicious. Arguably the best on tap Breakfast Stout I've had to date. Also "Cereal Killer" is F***ing delicious and at 11.5%abv don't plan on driving anywhere. I recommend Arcadia's Brewery to anyone in Southwest-South central Michigan and their beer to anyone who get get their hands on it.

Food was delightful. I had the Smokehouse Burger which had some of the best bacon I've had on it and it came with chips made in house that were absolutely delightful. I would give them five stars if it wasn't for the wait staff. While the hostess was extremely polite, our waiter and others were not very attentive and ours particularly was snobby. I had to wait quite a while for my bill after I asked for it. This didn't happen to only me. I could see tables under two different waiters and both of them had customers holding their wallets waiting to receive their bills. If three waiters are having the same issue, the issue is training. When asked if I could have ketchup I was told "But there's barbecue sauce on it already, you don't need it." Whether I need or not doesn't really matter, I wanted it just in case I did so I didn't have to wait for it later. Others have spoke of the decor being poor. They are correct, it is very warehouse like, but I don't feel it detracted from the meal.

Big fan of the Arcadia stuff I've sampled from shops in my area so when my fella and I we were driving through Battle Creek on our way home from a trip to the west side we decided to swing by and check it out. It was a Saturday night and it was fairly busy although street parking was surprisingly easy. There was definitely a wait for a table but since we had already eaten dinner we just decided to belly up to the bar. They had a number of different brews on tap so we settled in and got one to split since we were both tired and, well, driving. My fave seasonal brew of theres is the Whitsun Ale but we tried one that was only available on draft which was the Rapunzel. It was a lighter brew which I found to be another nice summery beer like the Whitsun. Bartender was nice enough, explained a few brews to us, but not overly chatty either. The space is really cool. Very spacious so even though it was packed it didn't feel overwhelmingly so. The smell of the BBQ was amazing and even though I had just eaten I found myself craving some of that meaty goodness. Next time! Our visit was short but enough to leave a good impression on me. Surprisingly it only took about an hour to get home from there which means there's a good chance we'd drive out to BC just to visit Arcadia for the full experience.

We were travelling through Battle Creek and had the good fortune of stepping into Arcadia. Their restaurant/brewery has nice creature comforts, outstanding food and terrific craft beers. I had the Arcadia Club which was mouth watering and a couple of their London Porter's (intertwined with coffee and chocolate). Liked those so much I bought some to take home with me. It's too bad this brew pub is so far from us, I'd be a frequent flier if we were closer!

This is the first time Yelp has failed me. I have been to several(at least a dozen) breweries in Michigan and WI. This is by far the worst. The beer was served slightly above warm. I realize Ales have a different style, but I've never had beer that warm anywhere. I had a party of 4 and the service was terrible. I usually leave a 20% tip for average service, but not much of one was left. Our waitress was very snarky and unfriendly. She did take our whole order without writing it down, but it look us 3 times to ask for additional napkins to get them and getting refills was a challenge at best. The food: what a disappointment. This is where I really depend on yelp and I have to assume we either had a new inexperienced chef or they just didn't care. 3 people at our table ordered the combination BBQ platter. If this is possible, the food was overdone and cold. I get that they prep food ahead and then finish it before plating, but my almost 6 year old has prepared(with some help from me) better BBQ. When we told the waitress of the problem, she said she would bring some more brisket out. She brought ONE piece for 3 big dudes. And then nothing else was ever offered or done to rectify that. My pizza, which was the highly recommended item, was over done. It had burnt crusts and was dry. They were, however very creative with their pizza toppings. I liked that it seems they pushed the boundaries with the toppings, but lacked execution. The highlight of our meal was the black bean dip appetizer. It was served with housemate pita bread. Very tasty. This is the first 1 star review I've ever given on Yelp. I felt bad because I was the person in my golf group to recommend this brewery and was heavily disappointed. It's pretty sad when the highlight of a $100+ bill was an appetizer.

Good food but they are so slow when it comes to serving appetizers! If I order an appetizer, it's because I'm hungry and I need something to carry me through while I wait for my meal. Amazing flat bread and hummus!
